A fake soldier, Abdulazizi Abdulwasiu, has been arrested for dressing in his friend’s complete army camouflage uniform in Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered on Friday that Abdulwasiu was riding an unregistered motorcycle to a destination in the state when he sighted the policemen attached to the Ilemba Hausa Division who were on surveillance patrol on Jinadu Street, in the Ajangbadi area of the state.
Upon sighting the policemen, Abdulwasiu abandoned his motorcycle and took to his heels but the policemen, who observed his suspicious movements, gave him a hot chase and arrested him on June 14, 2024.
A source, who does not want to be mentioned in print over fear of victimisation, said during interrogation, Abdulwasiu confessed that the uniform belonged to his friend, who is a soldier serving in Borno State.
The source said, “It was the policemen attached to the Ilemba Hausa Division who arrested him. From what I gathered, the policemen were on surveillance patrol on Jinadu Street, Ajangbadi when they intercepted Abdulazizi Abdulwasiu, 28. He was fully dressed in a complete army camouflage uniform and riding one black unregistered TVS motorcycle.
“But when he sighted the policemen, he abandoned the motorcycle and took to his heels. The policemen gave him a hot chase, arrested and took him to the station.
“It was at the station that he said he was not a soldier and that the army camouflage uniform belonged to his friend who is a soldier serving in Maiduguri, Borno State.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and noted that the command had commenced an investigation into the case.
