In a grand ceremony held at the Police Officers’ Mess in Bompai, Kano, on June 24, 2024, the Kano State Police Command, in partnership with AMG Foundation, presented awards and commendations to 58 outstanding officers and 23 community policing stakeholders.
The event marked a milestone in the command’s history, as it recognized the dedication and hard work of its personnel and stakeholders who have contributed significantly to maintaining law and order in the state.
Outgoing Commissioner of Police, AIG Mohammed Usaini Gumel, who was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, bid farewell to the command, expressing his gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for the trust and confidence placed in him during his tenure.
AIG Gumel also thanked the government and people of Kano State for their support and cooperation, which he said were instrumental in the command’s successes. He acknowledged the challenges faced during his tenure, including armed robbery, thuggery, and kidnapping, but noted that the command’s strategies had significantly reduced crime rates.
Some of the notable achievements highlighted by AIG Gumel included the successful management of the 2023 Governorship Election, which was conducted peacefully, and the surrender of 723 repentant thugs who have since turned away from a life of crime.
The awardees were selected based on their exceptional performance, dedication, and commitment to duty. They were presented with certificates and plaques, while some received cash rewards and promotions.
The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including the representative of the Inspector-General of Police, the Kano State Governor, the Secretary to the State Government, the Emir of Kano, and other top government officials.
In his farewell speech, AIG Gumel urged the officers and men of the command to continue to pursue excellence in their duties and to maintain the tempo of community policing and security. He also charged them to remain professional and committed to maintaining law and order in the state.
