The accident, which happened at about 5:30 am, involved a blue Peugeot bus with registration number WRA224XA and an orange DAF truck with registration number ANC711XA.
According to a statement made available to journalists by the Spokesperson of Ogun State Sector Command of Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, the two vehicles collided as a result of excessive speed and consequent loss of control.
This incident follows closely on the report of another crash on Monday night around the Ogere area of the expressway, which killed seven people and left 11 others with varying degrees of injuries.
This earlier accident involved a Mazda bus with registration number MNY894 and a truck with no number plate. The Mazda bus, due to excessive speed, reportedly lost control and rammed into the truck from behind.
Speaking on Tuesday’s crash, Okpe said, “Rescue operation was carried out today, Tuesday, 25th June 2024, by a team from FRSC Ibafo Command at Kara, on a crash that occurred at about 0530hrs.”
“The crash involved 2(two) vehicles with the following details: Blue Peugeot Bus with registration number WRA224XA and Orange DAF Truck with registration number ANC711XA.”
“Male Adults were involved in the crash. 2 out of the persons involved were killed, while the other 2 were injured.”
“The injured victims were taken to the nearest hospital, and the corpses were handed over to the families of the deceased. (Hausa community)”
“The suspected cause of the crash was speed and loss of control, which led to the rear collision of the two vehicles.”
