Teesas Education has said developing leadership skills in children positively impacts their transformation.
As such, Teesas brought together owners of leading schools, top school managers, and stakeholders in Nigeria’s education sector to discuss leadership development in children with a focus on the transformative theme, the ‘Leader in Me’ program.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Teesas Education, Mr Osayi Izedonmwen, introduced the Teesas Leader in Me program which the company delivers in partnership with FranklinCovey Education.
He said the Leader in Me program incorporated The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.
Regional Director of FranklinCovey Education, Justin Permenter, stressed that globally, there was a shift from the industrial age to the knowledge age.
Accrding to him, insights from the World Economic Forum Future of Jobs 2023 Report suggest that analytical thinking, creative thinking, technological literacy, empathy and active listening, leadership, and social influence are some of the skills deemed to be of the greatest importance for workers in 2023.
Similarly, McKinsey’s Future of Work Skills Report released in 2023 identified cognitive, interpersonal, self-leadership, and digital skills as four categories of skills in demand.
The event included a panel discussion themed, Implementing Socio-Emotional Leadership Development in Schools Using Leader in Me.
The session was moderated by Vice President of Human Resources and Admin, Teesas Education, Mr Tom Ighalo, and the panelists were the Founder of Oxbridge Tutorial College, Dr Femi Ogunsanya; Executive Director of Standard Bearers School, Mrs Modupe Adeyinka-Oni, and Head of Schools, Pegasus Schools, Mrs Monica Lewis.
Ogunsanya said that the Teesas Leader in Me program encouraged better collaboration and improved the emotional quotient of children and these translate to improvements in their academics.
Oni added, “Teesas Leader in Me program is not a curriculum to be learned but to be lived.”
The Leader in Me program addresses school development in three aspects: culture, leadership, and academics, and enhances student development by coaching students to lead themselves and lead others while improving personal effectiveness and interpersonal effectiveness.
