The Chief Commercial Officer of Kaduna Electric, Ahmed Sanusi, has described the transfer of prepaid meters from one location to another as illegal.
He threatened that the Disco would do everything to arrest and prosecute those committing energy theft.
Sanusi made the assertion recently in Kaduna when he led a team comprising management staff and security operatives on routine inspection and monitoring of prepaid customers in Barnawa, Kaduna.
In a statement on Wednesday, Sanusi decried the unauthorised transfer of energy meters by some customers, saying the practice was against the regulation of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.
While condemning the growing practice of energy theft and meter bypass, he warned that no customer was authorised to move a meter from the location where it was originally registered to a different location.
He warned that the company would bring the full weight of the law on perpetrators.
He lamented that energy theft has become so rampant in the company’s franchise and is posing a major threat to efforts at providing a stable power supply and recovering payments for it.
According to Sanusi, the company has a responsibility to deliver electricity to its customers safely and shall not condone any illegal practice that puts innocent people’s lives at unnecessary risk or constitutes a drain on the company’s revenue.
“Our mandate is to provide electricity services to our customers in a safe manner and in conformity with standard practices; we shall be decisive in dealing with any form of illegality by some selfish individuals in our franchise.
“There are guidelines, regulations and standard practices for metering and general usage of electricity and any customer found wanting in this regard shall be subjected to the relevant penalty,” he said.
