Dynamic Chess Ville on Friday announced that all is set for the Golden Gambit Memorial Chess Tournament which has been scheduled to take place on July 20, at the Landmark Boulevard Hall, Victoria Island, Lagos.
According to the organisers, the event is a tribute to late pioneers who have contributed significantly to the development of chess in Nigeria.
The tournament is open to senior citizens (aged 45 and above) who are chess professionals, enthusiasts, and who share a passion for the game. The goal is to celebrate chess, honour the legacy of those who have contributed to the development of chess in Nigeria before they passed away.
The one-day tournament will consist of six rounds of rapid chess, and all games will be FIDE Rated, allowing participants to gain international recognition and a profile on the International Chess Federation database.
“This event has been put together to honour those who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of chess in Nigeria and urge chess enthusiasts to register for this wonderful event to take part,” Tolulope Fasinu, CEO of Dynamic Chess Ville told PUNCH Sports Extra.
“Notably, this event is a Guinness World Record attempt, scheduled for the International Day of Chess, aiming to set the record for the most chess games played in 24 hours, in collaboration with the International Chess Federation.
“I at this moment, use this opportunity to invite all Nigerian seniors who share a passion for chess to join us in this tribute. Let’s celebrate the fallen legends and create new memories together!”
