Akpan -Isong, also tasked the ruling class not to lock their gates against the poor, but to give, no matter how small, to people around them, saying “When people are happy, you are happy too but when they are not happy, you share their pains”.
The cleric stated this on Friday in Asaba when he gave out rice, bread, garri, cash and other foodstuff worth millions of naira to a 90-year-old woman, single mothers and other vulnerable grappling with hunger.
Akpan -Isong said his actions in donating the food items to about 60 members and non-members of the church, was to raise the bar and hope of the hopeless to upscale their livelihoods.
He said, “There is hunger in the land today. I looked at the church members, and the surrounding neighbourhood and they are not accepted because most of them are not well-to-do to do, and therefore need the support of others to survive.
“What I have done is just to make sure people are happy. So, my actions are not politically motivated, because I’m not looking for political office, or looking for rewards from anyone
“Jesus Christ had shown compassion, fed the people, particularly the poor and with the present economy challenges, people need support to stop their cries”
90-year-old Roseline Aniojo, a single mother, Rosemary Patrick and others were overexcited, dancing and singing songs of praise upon receiving the foodstuffs.
Responding, Rosemary Patrick, a single mother, who was overwhelmed with joy, said, “I am happy the Pastor’s food gesture will go a long way to cushion the hunger biting us as a family.”
