The Nigeria men’s rugby team, Stallions, will kick off their Rugby Africa Men’s 7s second round campaign against South Africa on Saturday (today) starting at 05:22 GMT (09:22 local time) at Labourdonnais Sports Club in Mapou, Mauritius, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
According to the Nigeria Rugby Federation, the team is in great spirits and poised for an impressive performance in the second phase of the tournament.
Meanwhile, the rugby federation has hailed Coach Steve Lewis’s positive impact on the team as it reflected on the first three games, the team’s determination, and growth, which have been inspiring, adding that the hard work all week has primed the team for this weekend.
Nigeria campaigned in Pool A in the first round, losing all three games to Kenya, Madagascar, and Mauritius before they defeated Tunisia to finish 10th.
The Stallions played without their two captains, with eight new caps stepping up, as the team performed exceptionally and celebrated their first win over Tunisia, marking their first win after the FlovalexNRFF partnership.
Uganda won the first round after earning the highest-possible twenty points.
For the first time in history, the Rugby Africa Men’s 7s tournament is played in two rounds at Labourdonnais Sports Club. The first round ran from June 29 to 30, while the second round will run from July 6 to 7.
Twelve nations are competing in both rounds of the tournament. The winner will be determined by the points collected after the two rounds.
