Nigeria midfielder Alhassan Ibrahim is fascinated by the prospect of playing alongside Nigeria teammates Chidozie Awaziem and Brunio Onyemaechi at PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 27-year-old shared his thoughts in his first interview following his unveiling by the Portuguese club after joining them on a two-year contract from Belgian First Division A side Beerschot on Thursday, being their first signing for the new season.
The club announced his signing in a statement on their official website, titled, ‘Ibrahim Alhassan is one of us’ and read, “Ibrahim Alhassan is Boavista FC’s first signing for the new season, having signed a contract valid for the next two years, that is, until the end of the 2025/2026 season.”
Ibrahim shared his excitement: “I’m quite happy. Signing for Boavista was an easy decision, first because I know the greatness of the club and then because I have already played in Portugal, which I consider to be my second home. I’m very excited about this challenge, and I can’t wait to meet my new teammates and start this adventure.
“I usually play as a defensive midfielder, but last season I often played in central defence. I’m a team player, and I’m always available to help my teammates in any position.
“The atmosphere was spectacular, and the fans are always supportive, making it difficult for the opponents. Fortunately, now that I’m on this side, it will be easier to play at Bessa.
“I was able to understand that here there is a lot of value when the players leave everything on the pitch, and I can say that I fit into that register. I always give 100% for the club I represent; that’s my way of being, and I feel that I will be able to create that connection with the fans.
“I know Bruno [Onyemaechi] and Chidozie personally. I played with Chidozie when I was on the Nigeria national team, and I had already faced Bruno when he was still at Feirense. I also shared the dressing room with Filipe Ferreira at Nacional, and I remember playing against Ibrahima Camara. This connection with my teammates may be important for me to adapt more easily.
