A federal lawmaker representing the Maru/Bungudu Federal Constituency in Zamfara State, Hon Abdul Malik Zubairu has paid a total sum of N10.5 million as bride price for the 105 orphans who were married off following the gruesome and untimely deaths of their parents by bandits.
Arewa PUNCH reports that the Green Chamber lawmaker provided the sum of N100,000 for each of the 105 bride grooms and N50,000 to the 105 brides to enable them start any business of their choice as they embrace matrimonial life.
The grand occasion, which took place on Saturday in Bungudu town, the headquarters of the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, was attended by prominent personalities both within and outside the state.
Both the brides and the bride grooms were gorgeously dressed during the event, which attracted the attention of thousands of people who witnessed the occasion.
The married couples were provided with beds and bedding materials by the lawmaker, in addition to the N10.5 million paid as bride price for the 105 brides.
Speaking during the occasion, Hon Zubairu said he was aware of the hardship being experienced by those whose parents were killed by bandits.
As such, he decided to assist in marrying off the 105 orphans and the vulnerable children.
He stressed that he would continue to provide more assistance to the orphans and the vulnerable children in the state.
‘’I decided to marry off these girls considering their economic situation, and I promise to continue with the gesture by the grace of Allah.
“Apart from the beds and bedding materials which I purchased for them, I also paid all their bride price and I have given N100,000 for each of the husbands and N50,000 for each of the wives,” Zubairu stated.
The chairman of the occasion, Senator kawu Sumaila representing Kano South Senatorial Zone commended Zubairu for marrying off the poor girls who have nobody to take care of their marriage as a result of the death of their parents during the several bandits’ attacks.
Senator Sumaila also donated the sum of N10,000 to each of the 105 couples as his token of assistance for their welfare.
He called on other well-to-do individuals to borrow a leaf from the lawmaker.
