The 24-year-old Belgian international will spend the 2024-2025 season with the Spanish club, seeking to gain valuable playing time and experience in one of Europe’s top leagues.
Lokonga, who joined Arsenal from Anderlecht in 2021, is looking forward to this new chapter in his career and the opportunity to showcase his talents on a different stage.
A Monday statement obtained from the club website revealed this.
It was titled, “Sambi Lokonga has joined La Liga side Sevilla on a season-long loan.”
The statement noted that the Belgian who missed out on the nation’s just-concluded Euro 2024 squad will seize the opportunity to fulfil his potential by competing in a top European league.
“The 24-year-old midfielder spent last season on loan with Luton Town, where he made 17 Premier League appearances in the Hatters’ first season back in top-flight football for over 30 years. Sambi became an integral part of the Luton team during the season, producing strong performances throughout the campaign for Rob Edwards’ side.
“Since joining us in July 2021 from Anderlecht, Sambi has made 39 Gunners appearances in all competitions, including featuring in 12 of our first 13 Premier League matches of his debut season. Sambi also spent some time on loan in south London with Crystal Palace for the second half of the 2022/2023 campaign, to help steer the Eagles to safety.
“This next step in Sambi’s career represents a great opportunity for our Belgian international midfielder to further fulfil his potential by competing at a high level in a top European league,” it read.
The club also wished Lokonga the best in his new adventure with the Spanish club.
“Everyone at Arsenal wishes Sambi all the best this coming season in Spain with Sevilla,” it further read.
Meanwhile, according to the statement, the loan deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.
