….Reiterates Commitment to Education,Youth Empowerment

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged the federal government’s commitment to the promotion of functional education and youth empowerment.
Represented by Minister of State for Education Malam Yusuf Sununu at the University of Ilorin’s 39th Convocation Ceremony last Tuesday, President Tinubu emphasized education’s crucial role in shaping Nigeria’s future.
The President highlighted the importance of education in addressing Nigeria’s challenges. He said, “Education is the foundation upon which Nigeria’s future is built,” adding, “As graduates, you have a critical role to play in nation-building, leveraging your intelligence, courage, and integrity to overcome our challenges.”
President Tinubu announced that the Nigerian Education Loans Fund (NELFUND) was rstablished to provide students with easy access to education and repayment options.
According to him, “This initiative will empower students to pursue their academic goals without financial constraints.”
The President revealed that the Federal Government has taken steps to resolve staff shortages in universities across the nation, granting waivers for institutions to recruit more personnel. This move aims to enhance the quality of education and provide students with adequate support.
The University of Ilorin has made significant strides in higher education, earning accolades nationally and internationally. Recognized as the most subscribed university in Nigeria, it received N500 million from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Additionally, the university was awarded the Best Federal University in ICT Integration by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, urged graduates to uphold the values instilled in them during their academic journey.
Professor Egbewole said, “Society awaits the wonders of your degrees to change the situation and restore hope for a better country.”
The Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq,who doubles as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, who was represented by Prof. Shehu Adaramaja, Dean of the Forum of Chairmen of State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), charged graduates to be drivers of positive change, innovators, and entrepreneurs.
He told tge graduands, “Education is the foundation of any thriving society. You are now equipped with the tools to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development.”
Surv. Abiodun Aluko, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, stated that the University of Ilorin’s Governing Council is committed to upholding the institution’s ‘Better by Far’ slogan. We’re expanding our revenue base, enhancing Internally Generated Revenue to reduce dependence on government funding and securing a sustainable financial future without burdening students and their families.
Akinsanya Ayodeji Quadri of the Mathematics department, faculty of physical sciences achieved the highest CGPA of 4.97 emerging as the overall best graduating student 2024.
Celebrating the academic achievements of 12,042 undergraduate 256 got First Class honours. Other categories degrees are:

– 35 Optometry
– 30 Veterinary Medicine graduands and 1,875 postgraduate students.
Representatives from over 20 tertiary institutions across Nigeria presented goodwill messages at the 39th Convocation ceremony.
