…Assures Residents of Safety

The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed a publication by the Guardian Newspaper on January 20, 2025, alleging high crime rates in Lagos State despite the presence of CCTV cameras. According to the Command, the story was written as far back as July 2024 and published six months later without any updates to reflect current realities.
According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, and made available to GATMASH NEWS, cited empirical statistics to debunk the claim, stating that Lagos State was recently adjudged the safest state in the country. This development made the state a popular destination for Nigerians and visitors during the Yuletide season. Over 500,000 people entered Lagos in December 2024 alone, with 90% remaining in the state and near-zero crime recorded.
The Command also confirmed that the CCTV cameras installed by the state government have aided in the monitoring and arrest of many criminally-minded elements before they could carry out their nefarious activities. While some of these achievements may not make it to the news, they are still happening.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olanrewaju Ishola, condemned the publication, calling it an ill-thought-out decision capable of causing needless panic within the state. He assured residents and visitors to Lagos State that adequate human, material, and operational resources have been deployed to ensure optimum safety and security.
CP Ishola urged residents and visitors to ignore the publication and go about their lawful duties without fear of harassment or intimidation. He reiterated that the Lagos State Police Command is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all and sundry.
