In a bid to foster healthy mental health among visual artists, JOM Charity has announced the launch of a creative writing competition, “Art & Mental Health.” The competition aims to provide a platform for artists to express themselves and their works through writing, promoting mental health awareness and reducing stigma around mental health issues.
The competition features five exciting topics, including “INNER DIALOGUE,” “MINDs CAPE EXPLORATION,” “GALLERY OF THE MIND,” “THE SCULPTORS SANCTUARY,” and “PORTRAIT OF THE MIND.” These topics are designed to inspire artists to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences through creative writing.
According to the organizers, the competition is open to all visual artists, and submissions are expected to be original and not exceed 1,500 words. A panel of judges will review the submissions, and the winners will be announced on May 3, 2025.
The competition offers cash prizes of N100,000 for first place, N75,000 for second place, and N50,000 for third place. The award ceremony will take place at Kakotoni Arts, Galleries, Heritage Center, Eco-Lodge & Botanical Gardens.

Notably, *registration is free*, making it accessible to all interested artists. This initiative is a welcome development in the art community, providing a platform for artists to express themselves and share their experiences. The competition is expected to promote mental health awareness, reduce stigma, and foster a supportive community among visual artists.
