A socio-cultural pressure group, Igbo Patriotic Forum (IPF) has urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to zone the position of Senate Presidency to the South East region.
The group argued that since the President was from the Northern region and his Vice hailed from the Southwest, it was fair if the party zoned the Senate leadership to the Southeast since the region gave its best support ever to the President in last week’s election.
In a statement issued yesterday, the IPF also called on Igbo sons and daughters to support the President Buhari-led government, stressing that the future of Nigeria is bright under the current administration.
The statement reads: “with the results of the February 23, 2019 presidential and national assembly elections, it is glaring that President Buhari is popular and well accepted by the people regardless of party affiliation.
”The votes polled by the President in the 2019 election in the South East is more than what he scored in 2015.
” lThe President has executed numerous projects in the South East than previous administrations.
”We appeal to the top echelon of the APC to consider the South East for the position of Senate President.
“The President is from the North and the Vice President is from the West. In the spirit of patriotism, Ndigbo should be considered for Senate President.
“Collectively, all ethnic groups must work together for the sake of national development”
The forum while admonishing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to accept defeat in good faith, stressed that politics is not a do-or-die affair.
It added that the collective interest of Nigerians should be paramount.
Anyim equally urged Ndigbo to take active part in national politics, noting that the people of the South East have contributed immensely to the economic development of Nigeria.
