Innovative! Local Fashion Designer Thebe Magugu Develops an Anti-Viral Fabric. At this rate, we are about to kiss Covid-19 bye-bye. From dressing international stars to winning major awards, our local designers are now contributing to the health sector. One such is Thebe Magugu who collaborated with Hinterveld SA + Svenmill SA to develop a fabric that kills 99% of all viruses that land on its surface.
Using the fabric, the 2019 LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers winner designed a beautiful Anti-Viral Yarn Coat. The Longline, Single-Breast Coat with a matching Utility Apron will definitely take the fashion streets by storm. Magugu also stated that the locally developed fabric kills 99% of all viruses on its’ surface, and has been tested with Covid-19. Its Anti-Viral properties last up to 30 washes.
“Anti-Viral Yarn Coat:
I am so proud of this fabric we developed, not only because it kills 99% of all viruses that land on its surface (tested with COVID19) but because it has entirely been produced in South Africa. This is the crafted work of hands from so many provinces – Eastern Cape, Western Cape and Gauteng – who have all pushed themselves to create this beautiful cerise tweed,” Magugu said.
