Youths of Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State have staged a peaceful protest against the continued killings of their people and raping of their daughters by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
The youths drawn from communities including: Umueze Anam, Umuoba Anam, Mmiata, Iyiora, Ezi Anam, Umuikwu, Umudora, Oroma-Etiti Anam and Umueme Anam, were joined by those from Igala speaking area like; Nzam, Innoma, Odekpe and Allah.
The protesters gathered at the Umueze Anam Bridge, the only link road between Anam and Igala communities with the rest of the communities in Anambra State to register their grievances over the barbaric killings by the armed killer herdsmen.
Displaying placards with various inscriptions as, “Silent killings of our people by Fulani herdsmen in the farms and our villages are still going on”, “We are running out of patience with the violent activities of Fulani herdsmen in Anambra West”, “Farmers herders clash is a name to play down the heinous killings by guns wielding herdsmen”, “Pushing us to the walls will bring mayhem, enough of the killings of our people”, “Do not push us to the walls to resort to retaliation”.
Other inscriptions on their placards read, “Police and Army security are only protecting herdsmen, while they are killing our people”, “We demand a halt to Fulani herdsmen killing of people in Anambra West”, “No farmer has any problem with herdsmen, we wonder why they are killing our people”, “There is no security of lives in Anambra West”, “Silent killing of our people by herdsmen is real” “Governor Obiano we want a stop to herdsmen killings in Anambra West”.
The youths, who numbered over 150 held their protest in different groups and locations at the Umueze Anam Bridge, chanting anti-violent killings songs, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Willie Obiano to intervene to stop further killings in the area.
