The Ogun State police command on Wednesday, October 20, apprehended three men identified as Felix Sunday, Shomuye Musa, and Oluwatobi Michael for allegedly beating one Tunji George to death over the allegation that he stole an iPhone 6.
The suspects were nabbed after a report by one Bola George who reported at the Onipanu divisional headquarters that her brother was alleged to have stolen an iPhone 6 at Keke hotel in Iyana Iyesi Ota, consequent upon which the deceased was tied with rope in the hotel and tortured to death.
The command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, revealed in a statement,
“The suspects were arrested following a report by one Bola George who reported at Onipanu Divisional Headquarters that her brother was alleged to have stolen a iPhone 6 at Keke hotel in Iyana Iyesi Ota, consequent upon which the deceased was tied with rope in the hotel and to*tured to d*ath.
Having realised that the victim was about giving up the ghost, the suspects quickly rushed him to the hospital, but before they got to the hospital, the victim has kicked the bucket.
The Divisional Police Officer, Bamidele Job, immediately mobilized his men to the scene and apprehended two of the suspects while the remaining one was arrested in the hotel.
On interrogation, the suspects told the police that they strongly suspected the deceased was the person who stole the iPhone 6, and in order to recover the said phone from him, they decided to to*ture him not knowing that it would result to his d*ath,” he said.
