The Sri Lanka’s Inspector General of Police, Pujith Jayasundara, has resigned.
Jayasundara resigned over the deadly Easter bomb attacks the country’s president said Friday, according to KODIKARA.
“The IGP has resigned. He has sent his resignation to the acting defence secretary.
“I’ll nominate a new IGP soon,” President Maithripala Sirisena told reporters on Friday.
The President’s nominee for the position has to be confirmed by a constitutional council.
Hermasiri Fernando, the country’s top defence ministry official, defence secretary had earlier resigned on Thursday.
DAILY POST reported that eight bomb blasts in churches and hotels across Sri Lanka, reportedly left no fewer that 207 people dead and 400 injured.
The coordinated attack was said to have targeted congregations who were taking part in Easter Sunday services at various churches.
