…Urges quick arrest of killers
A group, the Coalition of Southern and Middle Belt Youth Leaders Assembly (COSMBYLA), comprising youth groups in the South East, South-South, South West and Middle Belt, has appealed to security operatives, especially the police, to arrest the killers of Salem Tordue.
While commiserating with the family of Salem Tordue, an employee of Vanguard Newspaper Limited Staff and member of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), as the deceased was buried in his country home, Benue State, COSMBYLA advised that his burial should not end the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
In a statement issued by President General of COSMBYLA, Goodluck Egwu Ibem, Coordinator, Forum of Middle Belt Youth Presidents, Terrence Kuanum, Coordinator, South West Youth Leaders Forum (SWYLF), Shittu Waheed and President, South-South Youth Forum (SSYF), Tito Zokumor, the group insisted that Torlue was assassinated.
“We are aware and convinced that Tordue was assassinated and we urge the police and other security agencies saddled with the responsibility of doing so to arrest and prosecute those who killed him and their sponsors,” the statement reads.
The groups argued that Salem’s case was critical, because the assassination was carried out in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja where heads of all security architecture reside, insisting that it will be a huge affront on the country if the case is unresolved.
“Nigeria is adjudged to be the giant of Africa and such title should not be only on paper, but in action and service delivery to its citizens. We have the technology and technical know-how to arrest the killers of Salem and we want all machinery necessary deployed to arrest the culprits.
“We, therefore, urge the police and other security agencies to get back to work until the real killers of Salem are found. No stone should be left unturned. Members of the public and good-spirited Nigerians who have information on how Salem killers can be apprehended should give such information to the family, NUJ and the security agencies for proper follow up,” the statement added.
