Senator-elect for Benue North East, Gabriel Suswam, has urged defeated Senator George Akume to learn to be a good loser in the interest of peace.
Suswam, who stated this in a chat with journalists in Abuja, condemned Senator Akume’s action of allegedly mobilizing and leading thugs in the name of celebrating President Buhari’s victory to destroy Peoples Democratic Party, PDP campaign billboards and the looting of property that followed the rampage in Makurdi.
He described the act as “madness of the highest degree” which he said was capable of overheating the polity as well as creating an uncontrollable spate of violence in the state which has experienced series of attacks and killings by the Fulani militia in recent times.
Suswam further askes defeated Senator Akume to serve as a good example to the younger generation and advised other winners of last week’s elections to be magnanimous in victory.
He equally appealed to losers not to take the law into their hands but rather seek reddress in court if they feel aggrieved.
The Senator-elect, pointed out that in 2015, he contested for the Senate of Benue North East as an incumbent Governor and he lost but did not mobilize hoodlums to molest his opponents and other members of the society.
He also used the opportunity to speak in glowing terms about the late Senator JKN Waku, whom he described as a political icon.
He said Chief Waku’s death is a huge loss to the state, calling for immortalization of the fallen party chieftain.
