Sixteen Zimbabwean teachers arrested during a street protest in Harare and appeared in court on Saturday. They were demonstrating over poor salaries of just over R2,300. Their lawyers claim the teachers were assaulted by police.
They were charged with gathering to promote violence and bigotry.
The teachers are being represented by the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights who claims its clients were assaulted by police.
The teachers will spend the weekend behind bars after their case was postponed. Their bail application is set for Monday.
