The theatre company, Duke of Shomolu Productions, has said it will unveil eight theatre projects as part of efforts to promote the growth of theatre production in the country.
The Executive Chairman of DOS Productions, Mr Joseph Edgar, disclosed this in a statement in Lagos on Tuesday, adding that there was a need to critically examine the value of collaborative efforts of government-private sector initiatives and sponsorships in Nigerian theatre.
He said, “Coming from the back of a very successful 2021, which witnessed the historic double-decker productions, Awo and Aremu, which attracted the attendance of the former Nigerian President and elder statesman, President Olusegun Obasanjo; Vice-President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; and the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Nigeria’s foremost theatre production company, DOS Productions, will on Thursday, February 3, 2022, host entertainment and corporate Nigeria at Southern Sun Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos.

“Already, our showing of Sarduana and Babakekere come October this year has received full funding status and the upcoming colourful showing in Warri of Ogiame Erejuwa II, is receiving very strong attention. The glamorous event will also be filled with appreciation for everyone that has played a role in the growth and vibrancy of theatre productions in Nigeria as eight theatre offerings by DOS will be unveiled. Edgar added that the event would be attended by industry players for the public to explore the wealth of opportunities the creative industry had to offer.
“FirstBank’s Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications, Folake Ani-Mumuney, will deliver the keynote paper that will take a critical look at the Nigerian theatre space, highlighting its role in youth empowerment, job creation and infrastructure development. Also speaking at the session is the General Manager of the National Theatre, Prof Ododo, and the Artistic Director of National Troupe, Ahmed Ahmed,” he said.
