A correctional service officer, identified as O.O Bawa, has been shot dead by operatives believed to be soldiers at a checkpoint at Goni Gora in Kaduna.
Bawa and his friend were said to be riding in a Toyota Venza SUV when the incident occurred on Wednesday.
The deceased, an Assistant Superintendent of Corrections, was reportedly shot dead because the driver of his vehicle refused to stop for a search earlier at an army post along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway.
Pictures posted on social media showed Bawa who was sitting in the front passenger seat soaked in blood. He was reportedly shot in the back of the head and died instantly.
The spokesman, Nigerian Correctional Service, Francis Enobore, said the police have commenced investigation into the incident.
“I can confirm that the officer was shot and investigation has subsequently commenced towards unravelling the person that did the shooting. The police are assisting in this regard,” he stated.
