The Acting Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Karebo Samson, has emphasised the need to train women and children on fire prevention and fire fighting techniques.
According to him, women and children are part of the key component of the society, adding that to reduce the incident of fire outbreaks and other emergency situations in the country more attention must be given to them.
He spoke during a training held for children and women at the Federal Fire Service Headquarters in Abuja.
This was contained in a statement by the Public Relations Officer, Federal Fire Service, Abraham Paul on Sunday.
The statement was titled, ‘FFS trains women, children on fire prevention, fighting’.
It read, “There is a need to come up with an approach which would actively involve everybody in the country. This is why we have commenced training for women and children in the area of fire prevention and fire fighting.
“It is important to teach our children and women how to prevent fires and also what to do if a fire breaks out unexpectedly.
“They are a key component of the society, when they are adequately trained on these techniques they can begin to pass the knowledge to others which help immensely in reducing fire outbreaks and other emergency situations in Nigeria.
“We have commenced this training and we hope to take it round the country.
“We are also determined to repeat same training for market men and women as well as other sectors across the country with a view to creating awareness and securing the country from fire and other related emergencies.”
