No fewer than 4,390 beneficiaries on Thursday, benefitted from the Zero Hunger initiative of the former governor of Gombe State, Danjuma Goje.
Goje, who is now a senator representing Gombe central, noted the project was geared towards alleviating poverty among the vulnerable people in the constituency.
Goje, who was represented by a member of Gombe State House of Assembly, Abubakar Ibrahim, said the 4,390 persons were drawn from two Local Government Areas consisting of Akko, Yalmatu Deba, within the former governor’s constituency.
He disclosed that under the scheme food items would be presented the beneficiaries whom are basically physically challenged persons, to cushion the effects of economic hardships.
Goje explained that each beneficiary would receive a plastic container, which has noodles, rice, beans, palm oil, groundnut oil, seasoning cubes, sachets of tomatoes and a wrapper as its contents.
He said, “Why he did this is because people are in dire need of these food items because of the level of hunger and poverty that are prevalent in the community today.”
Commenting further, he revealed that the empowerment initiative was part of projects been attracted in the constituency stressing, that a lot more was being done.
On his part, State chairman of the Physically Challenged Persons Association, Umar Goro, lauded the senator for the gesture.
He urged all physically challenged persons to register and get voters cards, in order to elect good representatives in next elections.
Goro disclosed that Akko Local Government has five physically challenged persons who are university graduates and he urge Goje, to secure jobs for them.
