Three people have been killed in separate accidents in Anambra and Osun states.
PUNCH Metro gathered that two persons lost their lives on Monday in a fatal accident at Naufia, along the Awka-Enugu Expressway, Anambra State.
The crash, which occurred around 2.20pm, reportedly involved four persons and two vehicles – a Mercedes 911 truck and a Toyota Highlander SUV.
An eyewitness, who did not identify himself, said the driver of the Highlander was heading for Enugu when he overtook and rammed into the truck, which was going to Onitsha.
It was learnt that the truck driver, while trying to dodge the Highlander, veered off the road and fell on its side with two of his passengers trapped under the truck.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts were still being made by personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Awka Command, to remove the trapped bodies.
The Sector Commander, FRSC, Anambra, Adeoye Irelewuyi, while sympathising with the families of the victims, urged drivers to watch and ensure the road was clear before overtaking.
“Traffic rules and regulations must be obeyed always,” he added.
In Osun State, a male commuter, whose identity had yet to be ascertained, on Monday, lost his life in a road accident near Iwaraja Junction, a community along the Ilesa-Ipetu Ijesa Expressway in Osun State.
The spokesperson for the FRSC in the state, Agnes Ogungbemi, in a statement, said the accident involved one vehicle.
Ogungbemi said the crash was caused by wrongful overtaking and speed limit violation.
The FRSC official also said four other commuters were injured in the accident.
She said the injured victims were taken to the Wesley Guide Hospital, Ilesa, for treatment, while the remains of the deceased were deposited in the morgue of the hospital.
“The accident occurred along Ilesa-Ipetu about 100 meters away from Iwaraja Junction and it involved a vehicle, Ford Focus. The probable cause was wrongful overtaking. Four people were injured, while a man lost his life,” Ogungbemi said.
