The current president of JCI FESTAC Mr Uchenna Achionye recently flagged off The Skill Fiesta project which was held on the 19th of February, at the Holy Family Event Place in Festac town Lagos state, while flagging off the project, he stated that it is designed to prepare and empower young leaders with productivity skill in a digital economy
The project aimed at equipping over 1000 young leaders living within the FESTAC community with digital skills, provides a platform for accessing digital educational resources; equip young leaders with digital skills; facilitate workforce motivation, guiding them people towards professional reconversion in alternative sectors of the economy where they can learn new skills for the future; as well as encourage an entrepreneurial mindset from diverse backgrounds to solve today’s pressing problems as enterprising young leaders. Thus, contributing to the success of SDGs 1, 4 and 8.
He further stated that the training would prepare the beneficiaries for post COVID-19 era which would provide the platform to unlearn how things were done before COVID-19 and learn the new ways to go in the “new normal”.
While wishing the participants the best in their new skill, the FESTAC president, Uchenna Achionye, encouraged the beneficiaries to be serious with the training itself. He stated that he would be looking forward to collaborate with them because the “essence is not just to train you and let you go but we want to create an eco-system whereby we can use it and train more Nigerians.”
While expressing the FESTAC arm of JCI organization’s commitment to creating the Skill-fiesta project, Uchenna Achionye further stated that JCI FESTAC partnered with different institutions such as Skill Factory Africa, Jaymas Edge, Namco, to enable young leaders within the JCI Festac family and her surrounding communities, to acquire cutting edge digital skills required to participate in the 4th Industrial Revolution thus, providing occupational and economic relevance in our nation.
The training had 3 seasoned facilitators; Daniella Ekeopara, a digital corporate communications strategist, Oladipupo Osofowora, the CEO of Influential Business Solutions, and Mercy Odukale, a creative director at BrandMe Creatives, who took the participants on a journey through social media marketing and management, Content Creation and Marketing, Graphics design and branding respectively.
Beneficiaries of the Skill-fiesta project were full of praises to JCI FESTAC and her Sponsors for facilitating the training on digital skills.
A trainee who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, Esther Ohabuiro, said the training has availed her with the skill needed to be an excellent Content writer in the Digital marketing industry and they have been fully equipped on how to position themselves and their businesses ad leaders in the digital space and were fully motivated to be a part of the digital transformation occurring globally.
On behalf of the Partners, Victoria Nwanna, Founder Skill Factory Africa, in her remarks pointed out that youth need digital skills to pursue a career path and be leaders in technology. According to her, technology is an enabler and only through digital skills training, will our youths find relevance as leaders in this age.
She announced that Skill Factory Africa was keen on providing digital education to the young leaders nationwide and so in partnership with JCI FESTAC, they would be providing the beneficiaries of the Skill Fiesta with free access to the digital education platform with over 70 certified courses in Digital skills.
She further assured JCI Festac that Skill Factory Africa will continue to support the local organization in the implementation digital literacy and transformation, especially in the area of skill acquisition and youth empowerment
