The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Musa Agah of the Peoples Democratic Party as the winner of the Jos North/Bassa federal constituency in Plateau State.
INEC Returning Officer and Senior Lecturer at the University of Jos, Dr Yinka Oyerinde, announced the results of the election in Jos on Sunday.
The bye-election was held on Saturday, February 26, 2022.
The seat became vacant after the former occupant, Haruna Maitala of the All Progressives Congress died last year in an accident along Abuja-Jos road
According to the Returning Officer, the PDP candidate who currently represents Irigwe/Rukuba state constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly scored 40,343 votes to defeat his closest rival, Muhammad Alkali of the Peoples Redemption Party who scored 37,757 votes.
The candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Abbey Aku, came to a distant third position with 26,111 votes.
Other results from the eleven political parties that participated in the election as announced by the Returning Officer showed that ADC scored 1833; ADP,571; APM,52; APP,55; LP,33; NNPP,136; SDP, 52 and YPP, 84.
The INEC Returning Officer said, “That Musa Agah of the PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
