Justice Olufunke Sule-Hamzat of the Lagos State High Court has fixed March 3, 2022 for hearing in a fundamental human rights suit against the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and others.
The other respondents in the suit are the state Attorney-General, Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency, Alhaji Tunde Ologunro and Joint Konsult Limited.
The Gbajumo and Eletu Iwase chieftaincy family had approached the court to seek enforcement of their human right concerning the acquisition of their property by the state government without compensation.
In the suit, the family sought an order of perpetual injunction restraining the respondents, their agents, privies and or servants from the unlawful and unconstitutional acquisition of, repossessing or further infringing on the applicants’ fundamental right to the portion of the property now known as 135/137, Nnamdi Azikiwe Street, Lagos, without the consent of the applicant’s family.
The family also sought an order of perpetual injunction restraining the respondent, whether acting by themselves or through their agents, servants or privies from further collecting rent and other profits in respect of the property.
