Following the tension that enveloped Mangun and other neighbouring communities in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau state ,the Police Command in in the state on Saturday said it has restored normalcy to the affected communities .
The PUNCH was informed that there was tension in Mangun and the surrounding communities since Thursday when some suspected kidnappers stormed the community and kidnapped a trader’s son
The villagers were said to have mobilized themselves and chased after the suspects.
It was gathered that two of the kidnappers were lynched by irate mob after they were apprehended.
One of the villagers was also said to have been shot dead by the fleeing suspects during the during the incident.
The situation later degenerated when the villagers who had been under siege of kidnappers discovered that one of the lynched suspects was a Fulani .
Sources said the villagers, thereafter, went beserk and started setting some houses suspected to be owned by Fulanis on fire and the Fulanis also responded in like manner leading to a break down of law and order in the area.
Apart from the three persons that were killed, three other persons were also said to have sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital.
Spokesman for the Plateau state Police Command, Ubah Ogah, told The PUNCH in Jos on Saturday that the quick intervention of security operatives saved the situation from further degenerating .
Ogaba said “We have restored normalcy in the affected communities .We have also initiated and engaged the communities on the need to live in peace .We hope that they will continue to sustain the peace while investigation continues.”
