The All Progressives Congress, Ebonyi State Chapter, has reacted to the Tuesday judgement of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which sacked Governor David Umahi and his deputy, Dr Kelechi Igwe, from office.
The APC called the court’s judgement biased after it ruled that Umahi and his deputy were to be sacked from office following their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC.
In his reaction, Chairman of Ebonyi APC, Chief Stanley Okoro-emegha, said Jutice Inyang Ekwo erred in his judgement, describing it as an abuse of the Nigerian Constitution as amended.
Okoro-emegha noted that there was a Abakaliki High Court judgement, and one in Zamfara State, which ruled that a serving Governor or his Deputy could not be removed from office for defecting to another party.
The APC, however, called on party members and the governor’s supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, adding that the judgement will be appealed.
He said, “The judgement was clearly biased and it’s unacceptable. Already there is a judgement from a High Court in Abakaliki and also in Zamfara state which said that a Governor and his Deputy cannot be removed from office on account of their defection to another party.
“However, there is no need for panic as the judgement will surely be appealed. All members of the APC and supporters of the Governor are advised to remain calm and law-abiding.”
