Actress and filmmaker, Kemi Afolabi-Adesipe, is living her life to the fullest despite being diagnosed with lupus, a disease that causes one’s immune system to attack one’s tissues and internal organs.
Recall that late last year, the actress revealed that she had written her Will and had paid for a burial space after she was diagnosed with the incurable ailment. Though lupus has no known cure, a health website, Mayo Clinic, states that it can be managed. According to the site, ‘current treatments focus on improving quality of life through controlling symptoms and minimising flare-ups. This begins with lifestyle modifications, including sun protection and diet’.
Meanwhile, in a recent interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, the actress revealed that her doctors had told her she has five years to live, out of which one year has passed.
She said, “The doctor told me to make sure I spend time with my loved ones because I have about five years left (to live).”
In tears, she continued, “I have lupus and it is not curable. One has to be on medication for the rest of one’s life. ‘Biology’ is about N1.2m but it was not working out. I was in pains (broke down in tears again).
However, the grim condition has not stopped the actress from living life on her own terms. During her colleague, Faithia Williams’ birthday party recently, she could be seen dancing excitedly and having a good time. She also looked glamorous as she posed for pictures with the host of the event and other colleagues.
During the International Women’s Day on Wednesday, March 8, Afolabi-Adesipe wrote on Instagram, “I live my life and I am happy. We have just one lifetime, sisters.”
She has also been consistent in celebrating her friends and colleagues on social media page, and putting up her previous works to the admiration of her fans.
In her last post as of the time of filing this report, she prayed to Allah to “open the doors of everything good to us, doors of peace and security, health, riches and sustenance.”
Her colleagues and fans have also been offering her words of encouragement and support.
Actor, Muyiwa Ademola, wrote, “Happy 100th birthday in advance, Anota. With love from me and mine.”
An actress, Bimbo Afolayan, wrote, “I will never weep over you, Insha Allah. You will live long and you will be healthy by God’s grace.”
“You shall not die but live and (sic) proclaim the goodness of your father in heaven. Jesus has conquered the grave on your behalf, darling. 2092, you will still be here with us cracking chicken bones in Jesus’ name,” another actress, Lola Magret, wrote.
On his part, actor, Yomi Fabiyi, wrote, “O strong. God says discussion continues Omotibi. Much love I got for you.”
Optimistic that the actress can be cured, a fan, @ibkbrunette, wrote, “Who is that one who says a thing and it comes to pass when the Lord has not commanded it. The one who cures the incurable is capable and has the capacity to make you whole. What God cannot do does not exist. Hold unto the one who has the final say over your life. God will make you whole in Jesus name. Amen.”
Another fan, @mide_places, wrote, “Sis, I join millions of Nigerians to pray for you. May you live long, and it shall be well with you, ma.”
