A filmmaker, Adenrele Olowu, has said his new short film titled, ‘Songs of Ubong’, is a deep symbolic demonstration of the Biblical Songs of Solomon.
Olowu, who is a graduate of the University of Lagos, and the New York Film Academy, said, “Directing and producing the movie was a quick, yet symbolically deep demonstration of the Biblical Songs Of Solomon. As a director and filmmaker, I strongly believe in visual art representation, and that the power of less can actually be more.
“The project is experimental in the Nigerian film landscape because most of the movies that have good cinema ratings are filled with intrigues and sex. However, my movie brings poetry, history and tradition to the screen.”
One of the actors in the movie, Rhoda Morakinyo said, “It is exciting watching Olowu work. He puts such passion and energy into his creativity. He does not wait for a large crew to get the work done. He sets up his characters to fit into the story. The lighting, sound and camera angles were set and double checked by him while filming. Also, he values the feedback given to him by actors, a producer, or even a passerby.”
The film, which stars Wale Ojo and Rhoda Morakinyo, tells the story of a gardener who falls in love with the landlord’s daughter.
