Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe has backed calls for the South East to produce Nigeria’s President in 2023.
He made his thoughts known in an interview with Vanguard on Sunday.
According to Abaribe, the region should be allowed to produce President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor in the interest of equity and fair play.
The former deputy governor of Abia State said the clamour for the Igbo presidency is necessary because other parts of the country have had a shot at the presidency.
He said the region has credible, competent and very qualified persons within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who can lead Nigeria and address the problem facing it.
The Senator representing Abia South in the National Assembly added that the PDP is destined to win the presidency in 2023 and rescue the country from the claws of the APC.
He said: “We are clamouring for a president from our zone because we think that every other part of Nigeria has had a shot at the presidency. But beyond that, we think that we have credible, competent and very qualified persons within the PDP from the South-East who can lead Nigeria and take it out of the problem that it has today.
“And we are also encouraging them that they should come out and contest; they should talk to people from every part of Nigeria because to take the cliché, power is not served ala carte.
“I am sure that we have many credible people from the South-East that can bring Nigeria back from the brink and the PDP looks good to win the presidency in 2023.”
