Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has described as unacceptable Federal Government’s claim that it cannot secure Nigerians despite the huge resources available.
The governor stated this when he distributed cars to district heads and local government council chairmen in the state Thursday evening.
He also described the security situation in the country as worrisome, lamenting that “bandits are now coming into my state.”
“It is unacceptable for the Federal Government to continue to say that they cannot secure this country, they cannot secure our communities. We have the resources to do it.
“I really pity our father, the President and Commander in Chief (Muhammadu Buhari) because he really wants to do it but he’s not being supported,” he said.
He regretted that bandits recently struck in the Zaki Local Government Area of the state.
Mohammed said, “We have to improve your (traditional rulers) quality of life and your personal security. We will also look inwards – if we can afford to do so, we can improve your remuneration, your salaries and wages to put your eyes off the other things that are coming and impacting negatively on our security.
“Bandits are coming from everywhere. I was in Abuja when I heard that they struck in Zaki, this is unacceptable. We are imploring you to deepen your monitoring and evaluation.
“We are establishing a very robust security infrastructure in the state, thanks to the passage and f the bill by the State House of Assembly and we will soon employ over 2,000 youths to complement what you are doing at the traditional level so that we will complement the work of our regular security agencies, the Police and the DSS.
“The rules of engagement will be such that will be approved by the Police, the DSS and the military so that there is no conflict in whatever we are doing. The vigilante can be insecure if they are not well regulated and we are very conscious of that.
“What we will leave behind is a legacy of infrastructure and services and security. If I can produce drones in all the emirates where I will be monitoring from the comfort of my room, I will do that by the grace of God, so that we will know what is happening.”
