Gunmen reportedly attacked one military checkpoint in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State on early hours Friday.
It was gathered that the gunmen also set one patrol van attached to the checkpoint ablaze.
The incident happened at the Tonimas junction axis of the Enugu/ Port Harcourt expressway.
A military source, who pleaded anonymity, told our correspondent that the gunmen had laid ambush for the unsuspecting soldiers on patrol.
The source added that no soldier was killed during the attack, adding that efforts had been intensified to arrest the perpetrators.
Some residents of the area, who do not want to be named, told Saturday PUNCH that the incident had caused pandemonium amongst them, adding that they were still in fear as at the time of filling this report.
