THE Lumosa Family of the Otileta Ruling House has warned the Balogun of Owu, former President Olusegun Obasanjo; and the kingmakers against politicising the selection process of the next Olowu of Owu Kingdom in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Addressing journalists in Abeokuta on Tuesday, one of the major aspirants of the Olowu stool, Sunday Adelanwa, faulted the selection process adopted by kingmakers.
The Olowu stool became vacant following the demise of the late Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu, who joined his ancestors on December 12, 2021.
Speaking on behalf of the Lumosa descendants, Adelanwa called on Obasanjo and the kingmakers to consult the oracle for guidance before choosing the next Olowu of Owu.
He said, “The kingmakers are not following the traditional process. This is causing short tenure for the Obas. They should not consider the financial standing of a candidate.
“The kingmakers should consult the oracle before selecting the next Olowu. The three names should be accessed through Ifa to know the appropriate Oba.
“They have introduced politics into the selection process; they did not follow the traditional rites. It is not proper to say they select an Oba through an election. Oba usually emerges through traditional rites.”
Reacting to the aspirant, the Akogun of Owu kingdom, Ishola Akinsipo, dismissed the alleged politicisation of the process.
He said the kingmakers do not need to be tele-guided to discharge their traditional rites.
He said, “Our concern is for the ruling house to present to us candidate or candidates. The declaration is a public document, and you can access it anyhow.
“It is not a thing just anybody talks about. It is not a marketplace matter. It is not a matter of the press. All we need is to refer to the government. How we do it is not the business of any press.”.
