The Orangun of Ila, Oba Abdulwahab Oyedotun, has described the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, as an epitome of Yoruba tradition.
The monarch, in a condolence message on Wednesday, said the late Alaafin was a jealous custodian of Yoruba culture and tradition. The statement read in part, “My ancestry brother, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, an epitome of Yoruba tradition has gone too early.
“A promoter of peace, patriotism and unity of purpose of our dear country is gone. A man of valour and sound intellectual prowess, a bridge-builder whose genuine love and tolerance for all, regardless of ethnicity or race was exceptional in the history of the Yoruba race. The demise of Alaafin Adeyemi, a direct son of Oduduwa and younger brother to Orangun of Ila, is a great loss to Yoruba race and Nigeria at large. Posterity will never forget Oba Lamidi Adeyemi’s lofty contributions to Obaship, sports, history rendition and royal pedigrees.
“I, hereby, use this medium to console the immediate family, Adeyemi dynasty, Alowolodu Ruling House, the Oyomesi, all Oyo indigenes, Governor Seyi Makinde, Oyo State Government, the entire state, and Yoruba race across the globe.”
Meanwhile, Oba Oyedotun has sent delegates led by Chief Alasan Adeniyi and the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr Omotayo Babalola, to commiserate with the queens (Oloris) of Alaafin Adeyemi, the princes and the Oyo Mesi chiefs, according to the Yoruba tradition.
