This came after a final selection exercise conducted by the University’s Governing Council, today, Thursday.
Professor Igwe, until his appointment was the Deputy Vice-chancellor Administration. He will take over from the outgoing vice chancellor, Professor Benjamin Ozurumba.
DAILY POST learnt that Igwe, a close ally of the outgoing VC, scored 86.5 points, beating his closest rival, Prof James Ogbonna (DVC Academics), an indigene of Nsukka, who came second position with 85.6 points.
Another Nsukka Professor, Cyprain Onyeji came third.
Professor Igwe is expected to assume duty on June 4, 2019.
