Two women have been arraigned before Magistrate A.O. Layinka of the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly stealing a five-day-old baby.
The defendants, Blessing Edet, 20; and Blessing Uchenna, 35, were charged with conspiracy and theft.
The police said the offences contravened sections 411 and 277(1)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihieme, said the women and others at large committed the offences on April 19 at the Maza Maza Motor Park, Lagos State.
Ihieme said the defendants received the stolen baby from one Anthonia Nkiru.
Magistrate Layinka admitted them to bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
She held that the sureties must be gainfully employed and have evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The magistrate adjourned the case till June 21 for mention.
