Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Saturday visited Katanga Community in Warji local government area of Bauchi state to assess the level of destruction and to commiserate with the residents over the crisis that erupted as a result of an alleged blasphemy.
The crisis was said to have erupted after a Christian allegedly posted a video which allegedly blasphemed Islam and Prophet Mohammed.
The PUNCH had reported that the Bauchi State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the incident in a statement saying, “Scores of people were injured while six houses, seven shops were burnt down.”
The governor led the Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman; State Commissioner of Police, Umar Sanda; the Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp, Abdullahi Nurudeen; Director, State Security Service and top government officials, to the area.
Upon arrival, he went straight to the Palace of the District Head of the Area, Alhasaan Boyi, before visiting the Evangelical Church Winning All, where he met and addressed the Christian Community.
He also addressed the Muslim youths who were at the other side of the community.
Security has been beefed up in the area with the heavy presence of officers and Men of the Nigeria Police, the NSCDC, the Nigerian Army and the DSS.
