The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party will meet with presidential aspirants under the party, The PUNCH has learnt.
The meeting comes ahead of the party’s primary, which is set to commence on Saturday, May 28, 2022.
A presidential aspirant under the PDP disclosed this to our correspondent under the condition of anonymity.
Though the purpose of the meeting is not known yet, our correspondent learnt that it was an emergency meeting.
“We have an emergency meeting with the NWC. We won’t take long. I think they just want us to know some things. I will, however, brief you on the outcome of the meeting.”
The PUNCH reports that following the exit of one of contenders for the office of the president under the PDP, Peter Obi, the number of candidates reduced to 14.
They are Vice President Atiku Abubakar; Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike; former Senate President Bukola Saraki; Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal; and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim.
Others are Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed; Akwa Ibom governor, Emmanuel Udom; former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose; and publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu.
Others include: former president, Manufacturing Association of Nigeria, Sam Ohuabunwa; investment banker, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen; lawyer and entrepreneur, Charles Ugwu; former Abia State House of Assembly Speaker, Chikwendu Kalu; and Tareila Diana, the only female aspirant.
