Manchester City legend Richard Dunne is convinced Aston Villa will take advantage of Watford’s predicaments to sign Nigeria international Emmanuel Dennis when the summer transfer window opens, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Despite scoring 10 goals and assisting six, Dennis suffered relegation with the Hornets last season.
The forward has been tipped with a move away from Vicarage home to ensure he stays in the top flight of English football.
Watford signed the 24-year-old from Club Brugge for €4m last summer, but the Hornets would be willing to cash in on Dennis this summer as they look to shed some financial burden in preparation for life in the Championship.
The club on Wednesday confirmed that 27 players have been released to ease their financial burden with former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Forster among the players released.
Reports also suggested that Watford would be open to selling Dennis if a fee believed to be around €20m was offered.
The former Club Brugge star has already been linked with a move to Villa Park and Dunne, who played for Manchester City for over ten years, believes the Nigerian and Burnley’s James Tarkowski could benefit a team such as Villa.
“I’m sure clubs will start looking at Tarkowski from Burnley and Dennis from Watford now they have gone down. They would benefit a few teams in Villa’s area,” Dunnes told Birmingham mail.
“They need another attacking player to give them more options up top and another central midfielder. They aren’t crying out for someone in any position, but they are looking for that next level of player to push them up the league. They have a decent strong squad.”
