Hassan Buba, the Abia state Chairman of the Miyetti-Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, has called on the Governor of the state, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, to give members of the association land for grazing activities.
Buba, who made the call in an interview with reporters in Umuahia, the state capital, on Tuesday, posited that the Ikpeazu-led administration should consider giving them some plots of land so that they can carry out their grazing peacefully without going into people’s farms.
The herdsmen’s leader, who spoke through the Secretary of the group, Abubaka Buba, hailed the existing peace between them and people of the state.
He pleaded for an area to be given to the herdsmen to do their business so as to curtail cases of herders/ farmers clashes.
Buba said, “Apart from the request for some parcel of land, we will also need government assistance in the purchase of medicine and feed for their cattle, so that they won’t have any reason in entering people’s farmland for the search of feed.
“We are also soliciting support to the governor, promising to maintain the peace between the state, its citizens and herders in Abia.”
