The group while launching its North-Central PVC Registration/Collection And Women Inclusion In Governance Advocacy in Lafia on Friday said they were determined to tour the 13 Local Government Areas of the state and other states in the North Central Zone to encourage women to register for their PVCs.
Speaking during the programme, the National Coordinator of the group, Zainab Ibrahim said the campaign was aimed at reorientating the Nigerian women on the need for them to play active role in achieving a better Nigeria.
“This campaign is created to orient Nigerian women on the need to register and obtain their PVCs, desist from engaging in election violence and contribute their quota towards the smooth and overwhelming victory of our party, the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 general election.
“We believe that this is the first step of participating in the process of electing good leaders for the growth and development of our country, Nigeria.
“As progressive women, we are most delighted to fully engage in campaigns, advocacies and interactions that could promote the chances of all our party’s candidates to win the forthcoming elections, most especially our Presidential Flag bearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
On her part, the APC North Central Women Leader, Zahrah Audu, said it was important for women to actively participate in politics in order to create a gender balance in governance.
She said, “Women’s participation in politics will ensure a gender balance in governance. We are aware that our men have taken over the politics of Nigeria. The National Assembly is completely occupied by men. Even the State Assemblies are also occupied by men, except for a few women who get appointed to hold political offices.
“So, we have to rise to ensure that our voices are heard. We cannot be recognized and given what is due to us if we do not get our permanent voter cards to elect credible leaders including the female politicians who are contesting for various elective positions into office in 2023”
Earlier in her speech, the First Lady of Nasarawa state, Salifat Abdullahi-Sule, promised to support the women in every way possible to ensure that they are able to exercise their franchise during the 2023 elections.
