Gunmen have invaded a quarry in Shao, in the Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State, where they abducted an expatriate and shot dead a policeman.
Another policeman reportedly sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.
A source said the gunmen burnt the car they used for the operation and disappeared into thin air.
The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ajayi Okasanmi, said, “The command is working round the clock to get the victim rescued and the perpetrators apprehended.
“One police inspector was killed while a Chinese man was abducted in Shao three days ago (Sunday).
“Meanwhile, the command is mourning the killing of one of our operatives.”
The spokesman said the state Commissioner of Police, Tuesday Assayomo, had set up a team to investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State House of Assembly has urged the state Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, to direct all the 16 local government areas in the state to reinvigorate and empower the local vigilantes to provide security surveillance within their council areas.
