Rasheedat Ajibade is ecstatic in the wake of the Super Falcons’ qualification for the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, The PUNCH reports.
The 22-year-old, who will be making her debut at the Women’s World Cup next year, scored the winner as the nine-time champions edged Cameroon 1-0 in the quarter-final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco, who defeated Botswana 2-1, on Thursday.
The goal took her tally to three in the competition and was awarded the MVP of the match
Speaking shortly after the game, the Atletico Madrid forward revealed that the Falcons remained focused on their remaining games at the tournament as they target their 10th WAFCON title in Morocco.
“We give glory to God almighty for the victory. One down, two more to goal,” Ajibade said in her post-match conference interview.
“We’ve achieved part of our goals, which is to qualify for the World Cup, and now we are focused on the next step.
“To win the tournament, we have to do it as a team. It’s a very tough tournament but we are going to do our best to cross this hurdle. We want to compete with every team, we are in for it.”
