After the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, was announced the winner of the governorship election in Osun State, the residents of the state took to the streets to celebrate the victory.
Adeleke won the election, scoring 403,371 votes to defeat the incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress who polled 375,027 votes.
Having heard the announcement, thousands of residents moved out and started jubilating, dancing around the streets of Osogbo, the state capital, Ede, and some other towns, chanting ‘Imo le de’ (light has come), raising their two hands.
Some were in vehicles, some were on motorcycles while some were trekking, singing, and dancing on the roads.
During the celebration, the happy residents destroyed the campaign billboards of the governor, erected on some streets like Orita Olaiya, Odi Olowo, Ita Olookan, and Oke Fia among others.
One of the jubilant supporters, who identified himself as Ismaila Adeniran, said the development was a dawn of a new era in Osun State.
“We are very happy about this result, the APC is dead finally in Osun State, we are tired of bad governance,” he stated.
