The Flannel Business School, Lagos, has said a knowledge-based economy will revive the business sector.
It said this would be achieved if reading culture was rekindled.
Speaking at the press conference of its forthcoming book roundtable discourse and 2022 awards, Chairman, Governing Council, Flannel Business School, Dr Gbenga Olowo, revealed that the event would take place on August 16, 2022 at Airport Hotel, Ikeja, saying that there was an urgent need to revamp the reading culture to bridge the knowledge gap and restore life into the economy.
‘‘After a tour of some moribund and dead facilities of many factories that were once the pride of Nigeria, Flannel Business School came to a conclusion that not all businesses died due to lack of funds, a great number of them stopped functioning because they lacked fresh knowledge, effective leadership and productive human capacity at every level of their managements.
‘‘This must not continue and that is why it has become imperative for all hands to be on deck to rekindle the reading culture and create a knowledge-based economy that will breathe new life into the formal sector of our businesses.’’
The theme of the event is ‘Book as agent of change in a rapidly changing world.’
President, Flannel Business School, Mr Lawrence Omidiora, said, ‘‘The chairman of the event is former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo, the guest speaker is Prof. Pat Utomi of the Lagos Business School. The Director General of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, Dr John Asein will also be among the panel of discussants.
‘‘The Arole Oduduwa, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife is the Royal Father of the Day.
